A present feels more personal when the wrapping tells its own story. A child’s drawing, a favourite family photo or a pattern you created can turn an ordinary gift into something made especially for the person receiving it.

You can now design your own wrapping paper at ColorMeSmore. Upload your artwork once, try a background colour, add a personal message and see an illustrative wrapped-present preview before continuing to your order.

What is custom wrapping paper?

Custom wrapping paper is gift wrap printed with your own image or artwork. Instead of choosing a ready-made pattern, you supply the design that makes the gift personal. Photo wrapping paper can feature a meaningful picture, while personalised gift wrap can combine artwork with a name, birthday message or short greeting.

Our Design Your Own Wrapping Paper option is a physical 30 × 72-inch roll—6 feet long—with a choice of matte or glossy finish. The current price is $28.49, plus shipping. Check the product page and checkout for the latest price and delivery estimate.

How to design your own wrapping paper online

1. Upload your original photo or artwork

Open the design tool and choose a PNG, JPG or WebP image up to 20 MB. Your original image attaches to the artwork form automatically, so you do not need to upload it a second time. Use the clearest, highest-resolution version you have rather than a screenshot or a small image copied from a message.

2. Choose your layout and background colour

The default Fill entire box option covers the gift-box preview with your image. You can also try a repeating pattern or a single design. Choose a solid background colour to complement your artwork, particularly when your selected layout leaves space around it.

A repeated illustration can work well for playful birthday gift wrap. A single photograph or drawing can make a more focused design. Try the available controls and include any important cropping or placement preferences in your design instructions.

3. Add a name or personal message

Add an optional greeting such as “Happy Birthday, Arabella!” Choose the available font, text colour and size, then adjust its position. A short message is usually easier to read than several lines of small text.

4. Check your wrapped-present preview

The simple mockup shows how your design could look on a wrapped gift. It carries a ColorMeSmore watermark for preview protection; that watermark is not printed on your wrapping paper.

The preview is illustrative. Colour, scale, cropping and placement may vary after artwork review and printing. It is a guide to your idea, rather than a final print proof.

5. Submit your details and complete your purchase

Enter your name and email, check the design instructions and select Continue to Order. Choose your finish and complete your purchase using the same email address so we can match the uploaded artwork to your order.

Submitting the artwork form alone does not place or pay for an order. Your upload and completed purchase are both needed before we prepare your custom wrapping paper.

Personalised wrapping paper ideas for meaningful gifts

For a child’s birthday, try their own drawing with a cheerful birthday message. For a family celebration, use a favourite photo or an illustration that reflects a shared memory. For an anniversary or a thank-you gift, a simple pattern with a short personal note can be enough.

Artists and small businesses can also use original illustrations or artwork they are authorised to reproduce. Only upload images you own or have permission to use, including any logos, photographs or character artwork.

Tips for a clearer printed design

Choose a sharp original image. A large file can still look blurry if the photograph itself is out of focus. Check faces, lettering and fine details before uploading.

Leave room around important details. The Fill entire box layout may crop the edges to cover the preview, so keep faces and essential text away from the outer edge. Tell us about any details that must remain visible.

Keep text readable. A strong contrast between your message and the background helps it stand out. If the photograph is busy, consider a shorter message or a simpler layout.

Review does not mean every image will be suitable for printing. We check file quality, placement and print suitability, and contact you using your order email if adjustments are needed.

Artwork review, production and shipping

We review your design within 24 hours of receiving both your artwork upload and paid order. This review takes place before the print layout is prepared and sent to print.

Artwork review, production and shipping are separate stages. Production and shipping follow the review; the 24-hour review period is not a delivery promise. Check the delivery estimate at checkout and allow time for the complete process when ordering for a birthday or other event.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a photo for custom wrapping paper?

Yes. Upload a clear PNG, JPG or WebP photograph that you have permission to use. The design is reviewed for print suitability after your upload and paid order are received.

Do I need to upload my design twice?

No. The original image selected in the design tool attaches automatically to your artwork form. Wait for the confirmation that your original artwork has attached before submitting.

Will the watermark appear on my printed wrapping paper?

No. The watermark appears only on the illustrative preview, not on the printed wrapping paper.

What size and finishes are available?

This custom option currently offers a 30 × 72-inch roll, with matte or glossy finish selected on the product page.

Can I download the gift-box mockup?

The mockup is provided as a watermarked on-screen preview. The design tool does not include a mockup download option.

Make the wrapping part of the gift

The outside of a present can be just as thoughtful as what is inside. Start with one photo, drawing or original pattern, add your personal touch and create gift wrap that feels connected to the occasion.
